Being an artist or a musician or a writer or a human being calls us to be attentive and sensitive to the world around us. Adopting an attitude of appreciation for what is lovely and true becomes a way to find beauty in even the most common events, or in an unexpected encounter. This discipline is for me. worth following.

ABOUT MY STYLE

Pastel on cold-press water color paper has been the medium of choice for me for the past seventeen years. 
The lusciousness of color and the ability to apply layer upon layer of pigment appeals to me. 

The feeling of actually digging my fingers into the piece I’m working on is a joy. The balance of sharp edges and softness, of shadow and light, of holding to the composition and letting it go, is important to me.

When | set out to paint or draw, I tone the paper and peer into the fog of what I’m about to begin.

I may have a composition in mind or maybe just a general idea of where I want to go—but
everything I do involves a lot of time just
looking—at the piece of work, at the world
around me, and also inside of myself. Eventually I arrive at a destination—often times one I never
planned to encounter.
